#13: I'm the Squeaky Chair

We again try something different, and this time maybe we shouldn't have, but we did it anyway.

We tried to sit down together and actually play a game of the DC Deck-builder from Cryptozoic as we reviewed it. The review went off well enough, but the sound quality was definitely subpar.

Timing Apology: We are again needing to apologize about the tardiness of this episode. Life got the better of us for the last few weeks, and we didn't post, despite having episode 13 and 14 recorded. We're back to our normal schedule now though, and we're back with big plans over the next few weeks.

Audio Quality Note: Due to the experimental nature of what we did in this episode, the sound quality was not up to our usual standards. Before we attempt any more episodes like this we will be revamping the setup to allow for better sound quality.

Review Notes:

DC Comics Deck-Building Game

On the box itself and its quality Tim gave it 3 Pows and Bryan gave it 4 Pows

On game mechanics Bryan decided it was worth either 3.5 or 4 BAMFS, while Tim thinks it's a solid 4 BAMFS.

Both Tim and Bryan gave it a complete 5 KERSPLATS for how completely accessible the game is.

Overall though, all things considered, Bryan gave the game 4 KaPOWS, and Tim believed it should receive 4.5 KaPOWS!

If you haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, you should definitely find a copy and go for a spin.

#12: Most Things are Powerless Without Their Heads

Ok, so we said we wouldn't follow up with Part 2, but we decided to anyway.

In this unexpected continuation of our RPG Deconstruction up we finish talking about magic and power levels.

Timing Apology: We both want to say we're sorry about this episode being posted late. Please know that real life circumstances were exceptional, and we'll be making every effort to avoid this going forward.

Audio Quality Note: Unfortunately there are a few spots where Tim's Cable company decided he should be auto tunned during the Skype Call. I don't think they did a very good job, hopefully they won't do it again next week.

#11: At Least We Warned You

EpicTurn begins a long running deconstruction of RPGs in this episode. After a brief followup we start a multi-part discussion about magic levels in fantasy worlds with a focus on low-magic.

#10: Sucked Right Back In

In our first normal episode since Gencon, we take a stab at doing our first game review. After some follow up on previous topics we break down Gravwell, a new game from Corey Young (@CMYoung) and Cryptozoic.

Follow up:

Gravwell Links:

During the episode we came up with a spontaneous rating system. Really should standardize these....

Quality:

  • Tim gave Gravwell an A or 5 Stars
  • Bryan gave a 4 out of 5 or 5 Turkeys

Mechanics:

  • Tim gave a 4 of 5
  • Bryan went with 4.5 Wombats

Fun:

  • Tim rolled and decided on 5 Dice
  • Meanwhile Bryan thought it deserved 5 Chinchillas

Overall:

  • Overall Tim gave Gravwell 4.5 Addiction Demons
  • Bryan settled on 4.5 Sphinxes

We're really not sure what these scales represent, but we love this game.

#9: The one thing to do at Gencon? True Dungeon

In this, our first ever MEGA-EPISODE, we get to sit down with senior members of True Dungeon staff: Jeff Chandler, David Radtke, and Jean Monfort. They where kind enough to talk to us both before and after we had a chance to run through the dungeons for the first time.

This was an absolute blast for us and we can't wait to get back to Gencon 2014 to run again. Thanks again for giving us so much of your time.

Here are a few links for you guys to check out:

We've also posted a few photos from our time there.
